Mobile Cabinet Tree offers renovation on wheels | Recommended | themesatribune.com

A local business owner is putting an entire showroom on wheels.

Mobile Cabinet Tree can bring samples and expertise right to a client’s front door.

The service is the brainchild of Amanda McMurdy, whose foray into the worlds of construction and design started early.

“I worked for my parents’ business for 12 years doing the same thing,” McMurdy said. “When they sold it, I decided to open my own business.”

That was in September 2023. The idea to take her operation on the road isn’t the only secret sauce that sets Mobile Cabinet Tree apart from the competition.

“I’m now a licensed contractor,” McMurdy said. “I can do full remodels and I also do the design work. So, unlike most contractors, where you’d have to have somebody else design it, I do both.”

She went on to explain that getting that certification not only requires passing a test, but multiple years of construction management experience – valuable experience she gained from working for her parents.

McMurdy also has her family to thank for the business’ name. Her mom came up with the “cabinet tree” pun.

“That I can’t take credit for,” she said with a laugh.

Thanks to her dual background in construction and design, McMurdy can offer a wide range of services through Mobile Cabinet Tree, including kitchen (her favorite) and bathroom remodeling, with design consultations and installation all rolled into one.

McMurdy emphasized that she also specializes in flooring and window treatments.

This allows her to count “anyone who just wants to freshen up their home” as a possible client, but especially “people with older homes.” McMurdy also stressed the importance of working closely with customers to cater to their style and budget.

On one end of the spectrum, she goes all out for clients who have a very specific vision in mind.

“If somebody is on a tight budget, but they still want a nice-looking kitchen, I’ll use a different cabinet company, or we can use prefabricated countertops to save on the cost of the countertops while still having a nice style,” McMurdy said.

“I’m not into pressure sales,” she continued. “I’d rather somebody take their time and think about it because it’s a big decision.”

She also offers promotions with the suppliers she works with. Those include Dura Supreme Cabinetry, Waypoint Cabinets, Golden Home Cabinets and Hunter Douglas. McMurdy went on to say that she’s working to expand that list soon.

Looking ahead to Mobile Cabinet Tree’s first anniversary and beyond, McMurdy also has something in mind for the clients who would rather come to her.

“I would like to probably get a little physical showroom with a warehouse in it, just so that I have a place to put more samples,” she said.

Every move McMurdy makes is all in an effort “to make it as easy as possible from the comfort of the customer’s home” (or not).

When asked about a favorite past project, much like asking someone to pick their favorite child, it was difficult to choose just one. McMurdy spoke fondly of brightening up an older house in Mesa and even the extensive renovations she carried out on her own home, which included bold moves like taking down walls and adding the latest bathroom craze — a wet room.

“I like it when I can really go in there and think, ‘What can we do to change this that will really make a big impact,’” McMurdy said.

While she’s mostly a one-woman show at the moment, McMurdy hopes to bring her kids into the business when they’re older — much like her parents before her — carrying on that legacy on another branch of the family (cabinet) tree.
