Oct 26, 2023Our new plan for public furniture across Boroondara
Council endorsed the Public Realm Asset Manual (PRAM) on Monday 22 May 2023. The PRAM provides direction for the replacement and installation of public furniture when required across Boroondara.
We know how important our parks and open spaces are to you, as places where we connect with one another, exercise, relax and appreciate nature. Aligning with the expectations of our community, the PRAM ensures the highest standards of accessibility and presentation of our open space furniture – as well as recycling, upcycling and reusing materials wherever possible.
The PRAM outlines:
• the types of parks in Boroondara
• a furniture palette for these parks and streetscapes
• a renewal plan
• considerations for locating furniture in open space.
Furniture replacement and installation only happens when required. This can include:
• when existing public furniture reaches the end of its lifespan
• replacement in accordance with the priorities set out in our Asset Replacement Plan
• replacement as part of a larger project (for example, our Shopping Centre Improvement Program or Playground Renewal Program projects).
While we acknowledge that design preferences can be subjective, our decisions are driven by meeting the accessibility requirements of our diverse community, as our former heritage and garden style suite did not meet these standards.
Please be informed that all furniture styles are not fixed and are subject to change. Changes to standards or availability of furniture may also result in the need to alter the range of furniture selected.
